Our role
Our team was appointed as the structural engineers for this exceptional bespoke dwelling, following a recommendation from the architect, Argento Design Studio. Engaged directly by the client after planning approval, we provided comprehensive structural engineering design solutions to support the construction of this 2.5-storey family home.
Project requirements and design process
The project involved the creation of a high-specification, bespoke family residence using traditional load-bearing masonry construction.
- Foundation design: A pile and ground beam foundation system was implemented to provide a stable base for the structure.
- Floor construction: Beam and block flooring was used on the ground floor, meanwhile the first and second floor were designed with 150mm hollowcore floor planks.
- Roof structure: A combination of steel and traditional cut roof elements to achieve the architectural vision while ensuring structural stability.
- Strategic structural simplification: Two spine walls at approximately third points were incorporated to simplify the structural arrangement. However, one of these walls did not span the full length, necessitating the design of a substantial structural beam. This beam was carefully designed to remain concealed without compromising the architectural intent.
- Elliptical stair void: A complex steelwork arrangement was employed to create an elegant elliptical stair void, supported by localised in-situ concrete infill for enhanced structural performance.
- Ancillary structures:
- This property boasts a detached double garage at the front of the property, ensuring additional secure parking and storage space.
- An external swimming pool at the rear, accompanied by a detached pool house, adding to the luxurious amenities of the residence.

Our structural engineering solutions played a crucial role in bringing the architect’s vision to life, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic integrity.
