Our experience
Our Highways design service provides support for projects requiring new or modified Highways infrastructure. From planning and design to technical approval and adoption, we design Highways that meet design standards, satisfy regulatory requirements and integrate seamlessly with your development.
We prepare and coordinate all drawings and documentation in line with the relevant sections of the Highways Act 1980, including but not limited to:
- Section 278: Agreements for works on existing highways
- Section 38: Adoption of new highways
- Section 184: Highway crossover agreement
- Section 218: Works within existing highway boundaries
We deliver comprehensive technical submissions for proposed site accesses. From general arrangement plans with design details such as kerb lines, pavements, visibility splays, signage, and road markings, to contour plans of highways levels, cross sections of proposed access and vehicle tracking of access.
Our engineers are adept at coordinating technical responses and drawing updates required by Local Authority Highway Agreements teams.

Highways design engineers specialise in a much more in depth design of a highway. They will evaluate and plan for routes, speed limits, geometric design, road safety and compliance. Whereas a civil engineer will be given a layout, speed limit etc and will design the road makeup (Depth of layers and material type in the Road) Civil will also design drainage for the highway.
